Getting started
How do I apply an icon I made to my Home Screen?
Theme Studio creates the icon image; the built-in Shortcuts app on your iPhone actually places it on your Home Screen. The flow is:
- In Theme Studio, tap the icon you want and choose Save & Apply.
- Theme Studio saves the icon image and opens the iOS Shortcuts app.
- In Shortcuts, give your shortcut a name (the label that will appear under the icon), pick the app it should launch, and tap Add to Home Screen.
- On the Home Screen sheet, tap the icon thumbnail and choose Choose Photo, then pick the icon Theme Studio just saved.
- Tap Add in the top-right.
The first time you tap your new icon, iOS shows a brief Shortcuts banner before opening the app. This is a system behavior. There's no way for any third-party app to remove it.
What's the difference between Theme Studio and other icon apps?
Theme Studio focuses on giving you full design control: real-time previewing on a phone mockup, customizable backgrounds, wallpapers, widget layouts, and exports that match what you see on screen. Icons are user-owned PNGs you apply via the Shortcuts app. Theme Studio doesn't modify any system app icons.
Subscriptions & purchases
What's free, and what does Theme Studio Pro unlock?
Theme Studio is free to use for design and theme JSON exports
(the .tstheme bundle). The free tier includes up to
100 PNG icon exports total across the lifetime of your
account. Once you reach that limit, exporting additional
PNG icons requires a Theme Studio Pro subscription.
Pro is sold in three options through Apple's App Store:
- Monthly: $2.99 / month, auto-renews until canceled.
- Yearly: $19.99 / year, auto-renews until canceled.
- Lifetime: $29.99, one-time purchase, no renewal.
Prices listed above are current as of May 2026. The price shown in the App Store at the time of purchase is authoritative.
How do I restore a purchase on a new device or after reinstalling?
In the Theme Studio iOS app, open Settings → Restore Purchases. The same option is available at the bottom of the paywall screen. As long as you're signed into the same Apple ID that made the original purchase, your subscription or Lifetime unlock will reactivate within a few seconds.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are billed and managed by Apple, not by us. To cancel:
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Tap your name at the top → Subscriptions.
- Tap Theme Studio Pro → Cancel Subscription.
You can also reach this directly from Theme Studio's Settings → Manage Subscription. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you keep Pro access until then.
The Lifetime option is a one-time purchase and has no recurring billing, so there's nothing to cancel. It stays attached to your Apple ID forever.
How do refunds work?
Refunds are handled directly by Apple, not by Theme Studio. To request one, go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with the Apple ID used for the purchase, find the Theme Studio charge, and tap Report a Problem.
If you can't find your transaction or have a special circumstance, email hello@themestudio.co and we'll help you get the right reference numbers for Apple.
Does my subscription work across all my devices?
Yes, as long as the devices are signed into the same Apple ID, your Pro unlock follows you. After installing Theme Studio on a new device, open Settings → Restore Purchases to sync.
Troubleshooting
My custom icon isn't appearing in the Photos picker.
Theme Studio saves exported icons to a dedicated "Theme Studio" album in Photos. If you don't see them:
- Confirm Theme Studio has permission to add to Photos: Settings → Theme Studio → Photos → Add Photos Only (or higher).
- In Photos, open the Albums tab and scroll to My Albums → Theme Studio.
- If the album is empty, try the export again; iOS sometimes silently denies the first save if permission was just granted.
The Shortcuts app shows my icon as a blank square.
In the Add to Home Screen sheet inside Shortcuts, tap the small icon thumbnail (next to the shortcut name) and pick Choose Photo. Then select the icon Theme Studio saved to your Photo Library. If you accidentally tap Add without choosing the photo, iOS uses a generic placeholder.
The web editor lost my work after closing the tab.
The web editor stores everything in your browser's local storage
(IndexedDB). It survives reloads, but if you used a private
browsing window or cleared your browser data, the storage is wiped.
For long-term persistence, export your themes as
.tstheme bundles and save them somewhere safe.
Wallpapers aren't loading.
Wallpapers stream from our CDN
(cdn.themestudio.co). If they don't load, check your
internet connection. If you're on a network that blocks
Cloudflare (some corporate or school networks), try again on a
different connection.
Privacy & data
What data does Theme Studio collect about me?
Effectively none. The iOS app stores your themes on your device; we don't transmit them anywhere. The web editor keeps everything in your browser. We don't run third-party analytics in the iOS app. See the full Privacy Policy for details.
How do I delete my data?
Uninstalling the Theme Studio iOS app removes everything it stores. To clear the web editor's data, use the Delete My Data page or clear site data for themestudio.co in your browser settings.
Email us and we'll get back to you within 24 hours on business days.
